Minister of Finance presents the commemorative medal “For Vietnam’s financial cause” to Director of KfW in Vietnam

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Christian Haas and associates of KfW office in Vietnam and to Vietnam’s sides were representatives of agencies who have close relationship and cooperation with KfW, units in Ministry of Finance and the media.

It has been 17 years since the establishment and operation in Vietnam of KfW (since 2001). The cooperation between KfW and Ministry of Finance of Vietnam in the past years has facilitated the renovation cause, economic development, poverty eradication, social wealth enhancement through the financing of great, meaningful, efficient and realistic programs and projects in the sectors of energy, vocational training, healthcare, environment protection, climate change mitigation in various areas in Vietnam. These sectors are the priorities of Government of Germany in the cooperation with Vietnam. The committed ODA fund by Germany for Vietnam has amounted to 1.5 billion Euro, which advancing Germany to the second giving ODA and concessional loans in EU.

Especially, during 2014-2018, under the direction of Mr. Christian Haas, the total commitment of KfW to Vietnam amounted to 725 million EUR and total disbursements approximated 300 million EUR. This was the period when the commitment has been the greatest, focusing mainly on efficient and economically energy, electricity transmission efficiency improvement and renewable energy.

During his term in Vietnam, Mr. Christian Haas has played the greatly important role as a bridge to connect Vietnam and Germany in general and Ministry of Finance and KfW headquarter in particular in the campaign, negotiation, signing and implementation of concessional loans and ODA for Vietnam. Therefore, Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung presented the commemorative medal “For Vietnam’s financial cause” to Mr. Christian Haas for his enormous contributions to the enhancement and development of kind cooperation between Ministry of Finance and KfW.

The ceremony held by the Ministry of Finance with the presence of Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung shows the hospitality and appreciation to Mr. Christian Haas’s contribution to Vietnam’s financial sector.

Upon the term completion, Mr. Christian Haas will receive new role at KfW’s headquarter and still continue to follow, coordinate, and share his experiences about KfW’s opearations in Vietnam.
